How does genre prevent listeners from discovering new music? In this essay for Oberlin College’s student publication, the Wilder Voice, I look at the musical genres of minimalism and hyperpop, specifically through the artists Philip Glass and Charli XCX. I explore how the two genres—which sound opposite in name—are more alike than they are different.
